The Residential Clean Energy Credit (formerly ITC) allows you to deduct 30% of your total solar installation cost directly from your federal income tax liability. The credit currently runs at 30% through 2032, then steps down to 26% in 2033 and 22% in 2034. To claim it, you must own the system (not lease it) and have sufficient federal tax liability.
